    Huge data spike

    by ldbug8 ·

So my husband had a data spike of 15+gb in one day… We usually use only 5 to 6 gb a month combined… Google Fi is our provider they are telling us it was Google photos … That seems crazy any ideas what would cause such a data spike in one day?

Did you replace his phone recently? Did he take a large number of photos recently? I am wondering if the phone was either uploading or downloading photos stored in the cloud.

This is why I make sure I use WiFi as much as possible on my phone. Photos and videos are huge now.

A sudden spike in data usage can be caused by a variety of factors. In your case, your mobile provider has indicated that Google Photos may be the cause. It is possible that the app was uploading or syncing a large number of photos or videos, which can consume a significant amount of data.

Other potential causes of a sudden data spike could include:

Streaming high-quality video or audio content
Downloading large files, such as software updates or media files
Using a mobile hotspot for extended periods of time
Background data usage by apps that are constantly syncing or refreshing
Malware or a virus on the device that is using data in the background
To narrow down the cause of the data spike, you can check the data usage on your device and identify which apps or services are consuming the most data. This can usually be found in the settings menu of your device. From there, you can determine if any particular app is responsible for the increase in data usage.

If you are still unsure what caused the spike, it may be worth contacting your mobile provider for further assistance. They may be able to provide more specific details about the usage and help you identify the cause of the spike.
