POLICY DETAILS
When disposing of damaged, unusable, obsolete, off-lease, decommissioned, old, or end-of-service-life equipment and media, the organization requires that the guidelines outlined herein be followed:

• Hard drives, SANs and NAS devices must be sanitized using a low-level format compatible with the U.S. Department of Defense data erasure standard (DoD 5220.22-M).
• Portable USB drives (flash media) must be destroyed.
• Backup media must be destroyed.
• CD and DVD media must be destroyed.
